Masjid an-Nabawi
Masjid an-Nabawi is the largest and most important mosque in Madinah Munawwarah. It is the blessed place where the resting place of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is located. Inside Masjid an-Nabawi is Riyadh ul Jannah, which is known as a piece of Paradise. Praying in this area is considered a very special blessing for every Muslim.
One prayer in Masjid an-Nabawi carries the reward of 50,000 prayers offered elsewhere. This mosque was personally built by the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), which is why it holds a very high and respected status in Islam.
Masjid Quba
Masjid Quba is the first mosque in Islam, built by the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) after his migration (Hijrah) to Madinah. Its foundation was laid personally by the Prophet (P.B.U.H), making it one of the most blessed and historically significant mosques.
The quran says:
لَمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَىٰ مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِيهِ
Translation: “A mosque that was founded on righteousness from the very first day is the most deserving place for you to stand and pray.”
(Surah At-Tawbah 9:108)
Hadith reference:
The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said:
Anyone who purifies himself at home, goes to Masjid Quba, and prays two rak‘ahs there, will receive the reward equivalent to performing Umrah.”
(Ibn Majah 1412)
Masjid Quba is thus not only historically important but also spiritually rewarding.
Masjid al-Qiblatain
Masjid al-Qiblatain (The Mosque of Two Qiblahs) is very important in Islamic history. This is the mosque where the revelation came to the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) to change the direction of prayer (Qiblah) toward the Kaaba. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) and his companions immediately followed this command, showing a great example of faith.
The Quran says:
فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ
Translation:
“So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:144)
Just turn your heart and focus toward Masjid al-Haram while praying.
Jannat al-Baqi
Jannat al-Baqi, also known as the “Garden of Heaven,” is located next to Masjid an-Nabawi. This is the place where the family members of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and many of his companions are buried. The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to regularly visit this cemetery and offer prayers for those who were buried here. It is a place of reflection and a reminder of the lives and sacrifices of the early Muslims.
Mount Uhud
At Mount Uhud, seventy companions of the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) were martyred. The Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) and his companions went through a tough time. This place is really important because it teaches us about being patient being brave and staying strong in our faith, in the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and his teachings. We can learn a lot from what the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) and his companions went through at Mount Uhud.
The Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) said:
Uhud loves us. We really love Uhud. We feel the way about Uhud. Uhud is very special to us. It is a powerful place for reflection on sacrifice and dedication in the path of Allah (S.W.T).
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 2889)
Seven mosques
The Seven Mosques in Madinah are important places for Muslims to visit. The Seven Mosques are special because they remind us of the Battle of the Trench and what the early Muslim community went through.
The names of these mosques are:
- Masjid Al-Fath
- Masjid Abu Bakr
- Masjid Ali bin Abi Talib
- Masjid Umar
- Masjid Salman al-Farsi
- Masjid Fatimah Az-Zahra
- Masjid Saad
Visiting these mosques is really helpful because it makes us think about the bravery and togetherness of the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) companions. They showed a lot of courage and unity during a tough time in Islamic history.
Guidelines for Ziyarat
When performing Ziyarat, always start with Masjid an-Nabawi and stay in ablution (wudu). Choose humility in every step, recite Darood and other authentic prayers, and avoid any innovations (bidah) or shirk. The most important thing is to make a pure intention (niyyah), follow the authentic Sunnah prayers and duas, and maintain full respect in your behavior, speech, and actions throughout the journey.
